FAQs:

  • The player won’t start / no video shows?

Please check the minimum system requirements and that you have the correct Flash Player installed and have the required minimum bandwidth available. For a bandwidth speed check please visit http://www.speedtest.net. Please also try closing the browser and re-launching the player page.

  • Why is the video playback jerky?

Under normal operating circumstances the player will detect reduced playback performance and will adjust its configuration accordingly. If it has not done so, please manually switch player mode to a lower setting by selecting “SD” or “WD” in the Video Quality tab available via the VQ button on the controller bar. Try all player modes to see what works best for your computer.

  • Why does the video/audio jump as the player changes video quality?

The Recast Digital RDV1 player uses a unique system of dynamic (intelligent) streaming which allows us to optimise viewing experiences for viewers with Flash 9 upwards. This function is handled by the Flash Player itself rather than the streaming server. This side-effect of this is that transition between video quality levels may be briefly noticeable. Future upgrades available to users with Flash 10 will improve the transition.

  • Why is the video buffering?

Assuming you have a consistent broadband speed of more than 550kbps, you should not experience excessive buffering during video playback. The player is designed to auto-navigate to an appropriate stream bitrate according to you actual bandwidth conditions. However buffering may occur in the following circumstances:

  • Your bandwidth has suffered a significant and sudden drop in speed, due to either contention on your broadband service, other programs on your computer are accessing the internet, your wireless connection is weak, or your ISP has levied a bandwidth restriction (some ISPs limit bandwidth at busy periods).

  • Can I limit the video bitrate (bandwidth) that I am using to watch the video?

You may be concerned about your ISP’s data transfer limits or would like to limit the amount of bandwidth you are using to stream the video for another reason. By manually selecting the WD mode or SD mode you can enforce a stream bitrate limit of either 1800kbps for SD, or 800kbps for WD.
